Murtad is a brutal death metal band from Bogor, West Java. Started in 2009 as death/black metal band. Here's my interview with Andry, guitarist of Murtad.

Demi : First of all thank you for the time, how is your band current development?

Murtad : You are welcome. Currently our band still survive. Has been six years since the band was formed. Thank God.

Demi : I want to ask you, before you released an album entitled "extirpate the remaining breath", before it, whether you've released an album?

Murtad : Previously, we've released an EP titled "agenda busuk belaka" contains 5 songs. Verry limited only to 50 copies.

Demi : What is the difference between your EP with album that will be released in the near future?

Murtad : Very different, this time we play a lot more brutal. And some differences in the characteristics of vocal and drumming. We play a lot more technique and speed tempo due to this album, and more attention to the guitar sounds. And now the vocal is more guttural.

Demi: Where did you get this band name?
Whether MURTAD has a special meaning?

Murtad : at first, we play black/death metal. Lyrical themes that we use is, matters relating to religion, and those who would damage their own religion with their evil deeds. Since then we have
agreed to use this name (Murtad which means apostate)

Demi : I want to ask you about the artwork that you use before you finished recording this album. What happened to the previous artwork? Why did you change it?

Murtad : We changed some of the details in our previous artwork because there is a bit of a problem. So we decided to change the object of the artwork.

Demi : I really like the current artwork compared to the previous one. Who working on it?

Murtad : Thank you! Hopefully after the album is released, you gonna like the songs aswel. About the artwork, we entrusted to BVII. Because we think
the character and coloring that done by BVII is very suitable for our artwork concept.

Demi : Some bands always have a specific target they want to achieve when they recorded their album. Do you have a specific target after this album released?

Murtad : Yes, that's right, our target or goal after the album is released, hopefully we can do some tour. Hopefully this can happen.

Demi : What lyrical theme are you using for this album?

Murtad : In accordance with the type of music we play, which is about murder, brutality, and gore stuff.

Demi : what band that most influential for your music?

Murtad : disgorge, disavowed, condemned, liturgy, brodequen, and pyemia. And also local band such bloody gore, total rusak, jasad , dirty infamous , and with your blood.

Demi : what's your favourite album in 2014?

Murtad : death vomit - forging a legacy, and digging up - Disseminated Inapparent Infection.

Drmi : besides recording album, do you have any other activity?

Murtad : Besides recording the album, each of us had other activities such as work, collage, and school. Our vocalist is still in high school, we are in different city, he live in bandung.

Demi : how is metal scene in city where you live now?

Murtad : Highly developed, very active, and we still make some small events.

Demi : What are your views about the fans or metalheads who download music illegally and refuse to buy CDs, or cassettes etc because most of them still think free stuff is better

Murtad : In our opinion, we all need to be aware and alert to those who still do it, in order to maintain and defend the underground scene. Do not cultivate illegal downloads because it is very
detrimental to every musicians.

Demi : back to main topic, for album that will you release, what label are you cooperate with?

Murtad : we entrust to label based in Malang called Necrology Records. We going to release the album on CD and will be limited to 500 copies only. But we may also going to release the album on cassette format with another label.

Demi : Are you satisfied with the results you get for this album?

Murtad : We are very satisfied with the results that we get in this album.

Demi : What do you think things that can not be separated for keeping the existence of your band?

Murtad : Consistency. That's the most important thing.

Demi : what's your goal in the future?

Murtad : we hope we can develop our musical maturity and do some several tours. And hopely we still could make more album in near future.

Murtad : you're verry welcome! Yes there is, "Making the band is easy but the hardest part is to defend it", and we are very proud of the local bands that are still maintaining their presence until now, such as jasad, disinfected, gelgamesh and many
more.
